LINE

Use a LINE Official Account's Messaging API channel to manage messages, audiences, and rich menus.

Verdict

The LINE MCP lets your team send messages, manage rich menus, and pull conversation data from LINE Official Accounts without leaving Switchy. @Mention it to push broadcast campaigns, download message content, check delivery stats, or configure the interactive menus users tap in your LINE chat. Customer-facing teams get the most value — support agents can pull member lists from group chats, marketers can check how many people received a push, and product managers can prototype menu layouts. You'll need a LINE Official Account and a channel access token with messaging permissions; free accounts have tighter rate limits and can't list chat members.

Common use cases

  • Push product announcements to subscribers
  • Download user-uploaded images from support chats
  • Check daily message delivery counts
  • Build and test rich menu prototypes
  • Pull member lists from group conversations

Tools

  • Create Rich Menu

Create a rich-menu definition and return its ID. Creation alone does not display it: upload an image, then set it as default or link it to a user.

  • Create Rich Menu with Image

Create a rich-menu definition and upload its JPEG or PNG image in one call. If image upload fails, the newly created definition is deleted automatically. The finished menu must still be set as default or linked to a user to display.

  • Delete Rich Menu
    destructive

Permanently delete a rich menu by ID. Delete only a menu the caller owns or explicitly intends to remove.

  • Download Message Content Preview

Download LINE's reduced-size preview image for a retained image or video message whose contentProvider.type is line.

  • Get Message Delivery Count

Get the number of reply, push, multicast, or broadcast messages sent on one UTC+9 calendar date. A result can be unready, unavailable_for_privacy, or out_of_service instead of containing a count.

  • Get Rich Menu

Get one Messaging API rich-menu definition by ID, including its canvas, tappable areas, and actions.

  • Link or Unlink User Rich Menu

Link or unlink a per-user rich menu. WARNING: LINE can return HTTP 200 even when nothing changed for a nonexistent, deleted, blocked, non-friend, or cross-channel user; success confirms request acceptance, not the assignment effect.

  • List Chat Member IDs

Return one page of member user IDs for a group or legacy room containing the bot. Requires a verified or premium LINE Official Account; room applies only to legacy multi-person chats.

  • List Follower IDs

Return one page of user IDs for friends of the LINE Official Account. This endpoint requires a verified or premium LINE Official Account and excludes blockers, deleted users, and users without profile consent.

  • List Rich Menus

List all rich menus created through the Messaging API. Menus created in LINE Official Account Manager are not included.

  • Mark Messages as Read

Mark all messages through a webhook-issued read token as read. The token must have been received by this exact bot; this operation cannot be undone.

  • Set or Clear Default Rich Menu

Set or clear the Messaging API default rich menu. Setting requires an image-backed rich menu; clearing does not delete the menu and does not clear a default managed in LINE Official Account Manager.

  • Upload Rich Menu Image

Upload a JPEG or PNG image for a rich menu. An image cannot be replaced for the same rich-menu ID; create a new menu to use another image.

Setup

Setup guide

  1. 11. Open your Switchy workspace settings and navigate to the Integrations tab. 2. Click 'Add MCP' and select LINE from the communication category. 3. In a separate browser tab, log into the LINE Developers Console and open your Messaging API channel. 4. Copy the Channel Access Token from the Messaging API settings page (generate a new long-lived token if you don't have one). 5. Paste the token into Switchy's LINE configuration form and click Connect. 6. Switchy will validate the token by calling LINE's profile endpoint; you'll see a green checkmark when authentication succeeds. 7. Inside any Switchy Project, type '@LINE get rich menu' followed by a menu ID to confirm the connection works. 8. If the call returns menu details or a 404 for a missing ID, your setup is complete and you can invoke any of the thirteen tools.

What teammates see: by default, memories from LINE are scoped to the Project (PROJECT visibility) - you can mark any memory PRIVATE or share it ORG-wide.

Starter prompts

Broadcast Campaign Stats

@LINE get message delivery count for yesterday's broadcast. Show me the total number of messages sent and whether the result is ready or still processing.

Create Menu Prototype

@LINE create a rich menu with six equal tiles in two rows. Each tile should open a different URL when tapped. Return the menu ID so I can upload an image next.

Download Support Image

@LINE download the message content preview for message ID 482719384756. Save it so I can attach it to the support ticket.

Audit Active Menus

@LINE get the details for rich menu ID rmenu-abc123. Show me the canvas size, number of areas, and what action each area triggers.

Group Chat Members

@LINE list all member IDs in group chat C1234567890abcdef. Paginate through the full list and count how many members are currently in the group.

Example outputs

Illustrative - representative of the model's voice and quality, not literal recordings.

Prompt

@LINE show me the rich menu definition for menu ID richmenu-abc123 and tell me what each tap area does

Output

Retrieved rich menu 'Main Navigation' (1200×810px). It has 4 tap areas: top-left opens the product catalog webview, top-right triggers a 'View Cart' postback, bottom-left sends the text 'Talk to support', and bottom-right opens the store locator URI. The menu uses a light blue background with icon labels. This illustrative example shows how the MCP returns the full canvas layout and action bindings for inspection.

Notes

Useful for auditing which actions fire when users tap your menu. Requires the rich menu ID from your LINE Official Account Manager or a prior create call. The MCP returns the definition only—it won't show you the uploaded image file or tell you if the menu is currently set as default.

Prompt

@LINE create a new rich menu with two buttons: one that opens our FAQ page and one that sends the message 'Request callback', then upload the menu image from our design folder

Output

Created rich menu 'Customer Support v2' (ID: richmenu-xyz789) with a 2-area layout. Left area (50% width) opens https://example.com/faq in the in-app browser; right area sends 'Request callback' as a user message. Uploaded menu-design-final.png (1200×810px JPEG). The menu is now stored but not yet visible to users—you must set it as the default rich menu or link it to specific user IDs to display it.

Notes

Demonstrates end-to-end menu creation and image upload in one workflow. If the image upload fails (wrong dimensions, file too large), the MCP automatically deletes the newly created menu definition to avoid orphaned entries. You still need a separate call to make the menu live for your audience.

Prompt

@LINE get the delivery count for all broadcast messages sent on 2025-01-15 and compare it to the previous week's daily average

Output

On 2025-01-15 (UTC+9), you sent 8,420 broadcast messages. The prior 7 days averaged 6,150 messages/day, so yesterday was 37% above your weekly baseline. Note: LINE returns delivery counts 2–3 days after the target date; if you query too early, the result will be 'unready'. This example assumes the data is available and illustrates how the MCP pairs raw counts with AI-driven percentage analysis.

Notes

Helpful for tracking campaign reach and spotting send-volume trends. LINE enforces a UTC+9 calendar-date boundary and may return 'unavailable_for_privacy' if your account type restricts analytics. The MCP can only retrieve counts for dates at least 48 hours in the past—real-time delivery stats are not supported.

Use-case deep-dives

Customer support menu for small business

When LINE rich menus beat a chatbot for local support

A 6-person home-services company in Japan uses LINE as its primary customer channel because 90% of their clients already have the app. They built a rich menu with tappable buttons for booking, FAQs, and emergency contact instead of training a conversational bot. The Create Rich Menu with Image tool lets them deploy a new menu layout in one call, and Link or Unlink User Rich Menu personalizes the experience for repeat customers versus first-timers. This works because their support volume is under 200 conversations a week and queries fall into five predictable buckets. If your team fields more than 500 varied questions monthly or operates outside Japan, LINE's closed ecosystem becomes a liability. For small local businesses with a LINE-native customer base, this MCP turns the app into a zero-training support hub.

Event registration for community organizers

LINE broadcast messaging for hyperlocal event promotion

A 3-person nonprofit running monthly meetups in Osaka uses LINE Official Account to announce events because email open rates dropped below 12%. They send a broadcast message with an embedded registration link, then use Get Message Delivery Count to track send success and adjust timing for the next campaign. The MCP's push and multicast tools let them segment by past attendance without leaving Switchy, and Download Message Content Preview pulls user-submitted event photos for the next announcement. This scales to about 2,000 subscribers before LINE's rate limits and per-message costs make email automation cheaper. If your community is under 3,000 people and concentrated in Japan or Taiwan, LINE's 85% open rates justify the API_KEY setup. Beyond that threshold, switch to a multichannel tool with better analytics.

Retail loyalty program for franchise owners

Per-user rich menus for tiered loyalty without custom dev

A 4-location ramen franchise uses LINE to run a points program because their average customer is 28 and checks LINE 40 times a day. They created three rich menu templates—bronze, silver, gold—and use Link or Unlink User Rich Menu to swap a customer's menu when they hit a new tier. The List Chat Member IDs tool pulls group-chat participants for a VIP tasting event, and Get Rich Menu confirms the current layout before pushing an update. This works because their customer base is under 8,000 and menu changes happen weekly, not hourly. If you're managing more than 15,000 users or need real-time menu personalization, LINE's API rate limits will bottleneck you. For small franchises with a mobile-first, Japan-based audience, this MCP turns loyalty into a visual, zero-app-download experience.

Frequently asked

What does the LINE MCP let me do in Switchy?

It lets your AI agents build and manage LINE rich menus, send messages, and retrieve delivery stats through LINE's Messaging API. You can create interactive menus with images and tap areas, push broadcasts, and check how many messages were delivered on a given date. The MCP handles all thirteen LINE API endpoints Switchy supports, so agents can orchestrate campaigns without you writing code.

Do I need a premium LINE Official Account to use this MCP?

Not for most features. Creating rich menus, sending messages, and checking delivery counts work with any LINE Official Account tier. You only need a verified or premium account to list chat member IDs in groups or legacy rooms. If your use case is menu creation and broadcasts, the free tier is enough.

Can the LINE MCP send messages to individual users or just broadcasts?

It can do both. The MCP supports reply, push, multicast, and broadcast message types. Push lets you message a specific user ID; multicast targets a list of IDs; broadcast goes to all followers. You can also link custom rich menus to individual users, so different people see different menu layouts when they open your bot.

Why use this MCP instead of calling LINE's API directly?

The MCP wraps LINE's quirks—like rich menu image uploads failing silently or user-link endpoints returning 200 for nonexistent users—into a single interface your agents can reason about. You skip writing retry logic for image uploads or parsing delivery-count edge cases like unavailable_for_privacy. Agents get structured tool descriptions and can chain operations like create-menu-then-set-default without you orchestrating HTTP calls.

Who on my team should connect the LINE MCP to Switchy?

Whoever owns your LINE Official Account channel and has the channel access token. That person adds the token to Switchy once; then any team member with workspace access can invoke LINE tools through agents. If you rotate tokens quarterly, the same admin updates the credential in Switchy's integration settings without touching agent configs.
